VINTON-Mildred I. Wiley, age 89, died Thursday, October 15th, at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab following an extended illness.  Private Family Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 19th with Rev. Kären Larson officiating.  Interment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.  Family Visitation will be held from 4 – 6 PM on Sunday, October 18th at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East 6th Street in Vinton.   In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.

     Mildred was born January 21, 1920 in Rowley, IA to Clarence and Lyda (Rouse) Cottrell.  She graduated from Rowley High School in 1937 and attended Iowa State Teachers College for two years.  Following her graduation Mildred taught country school in Seward and Liberty #5.  She was united in marriage to Sheldon Wiley on July 19, 1941 in Kahoka, MO.  The couple farmed together in Northern Benton County for many years and wintered in Mesa, Arizona until Sheldon’s death on February 2, 1982. 

      Mildred was a member of the Vinton Women’s Club, the Sunshine Club in Brandon and Wesley United Methodist Church and the U.M.W in Vinton.  She loved to travel and was known to be an excellent seamstress. 

     Mildred is survived by her sons, Ross Wiley and wife Shirley of Walker, Larry Wiley  and wife Twila of Palo; her daughter, Delores Stueck and husband Larry of Vinton; her seven grandchildren, Dan, Todd and Scott Wiley, Jodi Patrilla, Tim Stueck, Landis and Tyman Wiley; her eight great grandchildren and one brother, Don Cottrell and wife Lucille of Independence.

     In addition to her parents and husband, Mildred was preceded in death by her two grandchildren, Douglas and Lincoln Wiley and her two sisters, Ethel Ossman and Vonda Hepker.
