VINTON: Dr. Olaf E. Craft, 87, died December 25, 20007 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness.
Services will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2007 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton at 10:30 a.m., with visitation beginning at 9 a.m.. Son-in-law, Doug Williams, pastor at Coralville United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Dr. Craft was born November 6, 1920, in Fairmont, NE to Dr. Albert D. and Clara A. (Roberts) Craft. His family moved to Osceola, Iowa in June 1926. He graduated Osceola High School in 1939. He attended three years of college before serving in the U.S. Army in World War II, primarily in Australia, as a medic from August 1942 to December 28, 1945. On June 29, 1948, he married Alberta Martin at Lancaster, MO. He graduated Kirksville College of Osteopathy in 1950 after a one-year internship in Portland, Maine. He and his wife moved to Vinton September 1951 where he practiced Osteopathic Medicine until he retired in 2003. He was honored by the Iowa Osteopathic Medical Association for 50 years of medical practice in the state. Dr. Craft enjoyed attending church at Blessed Hope of Vinton. He was a member of the Iowa Osteoopathic Medical Association and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Alberta; his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Don Hastings of Owasso, OK; daughter and son-in-law, Bette ad Bill Davis of Liberty, MO; daughter and son-in-law, Alecia and Doug Williams of Oxford, IA; grandchildren, Kara Culp, Ben, Holly and Matthew Hastings of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Jenny Voth and husband, Matthew and Luke Davis of Arkansas; grandchildren, Samantha and Jonathan Williams of Iowa; great-granddaughters, Carolina Culp, Ella and Hadassah Voth. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia JoAnn; his parents; his brother, Robert, who died in infancy; and his sisters, Sylvia Mullen and Zelma Ewoldsen. Gifts in memory of Dr. Olaf E. Craft may be made to Blessed Hope of Vinton.
