VAN HORNE: Opal Marie Primrose, 93, of Van Horne died March 2, 2008 at her daughter's home in Marion, Iowa following an extended illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at Salem United Methodist Church in Van Horne with Pastor Norm Bennett officiating. Private Committal Services will be held at Salem Cemetery in Van Horne. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Keystone from 4 to 7 PM on Tuesday. Opal was born February 14, 1915 in Van Horne to George and Katie (Guider) Hagen. She married Orville L. Primrose May 9, 1942 at Simpson United Methodist Church in Minneapolis, MN. She graduated from Van Horne High School. She attended Coe College and graduated from the University of Northern IA. She was a teacher for twenty-five years which included Sunday School. She was a charter member of the Benton County Retarded Children's Association and volunteered over 18,000 hours at the VA hospital in Iowa City. She also served six years on the Benton County Mental Health Board and was treasurer of the Benton County Food Pantry. Opal is survived by her daughter Betty Primrose of Marion; her son Danny (Kathy) Primrose Marengo; her foster daughter JoAnn (Richard) Prochaska of Omaha AR; nine grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents; her husband, Orville, her sisters, Katheryn (Sterling) Gewecke & Berniece (Earl) Boatman; her brother JG (Violet) Hagen, and two great-granddaughters.
