VINTON: Phyllis J. Phelps, 84, died Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at her residence in Vinton following an extended illness.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, September 3, 2009 at Phillips Family Center, 605 Second Avenue in Vinton, with Rev. Jack Kendall officiating. Interment will be at a later date. A memorial fund has been established.
Phyllis was born December 15, 1924 to Albin and Pearl (Harper) Jacobson in Windom, Minnesota. She was united in marriage to Eugene E. Phelps on December 20, 1940 in Lancaster, Missouri.
Phyllis loved to shop garage sales every weekend and enjoyed listening to gospel music in the evenings. She also enjoyed watching the birds from her kitchen window or just being outside sitting on her swing. Family was her first priority and she loved spending time with her grandchildren. Phyllis also loved hosting family gatherings where she always said and everyone agreed - she was the boss.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Eugene of Vinton; her daughters, Pearl Stickels and husband Charles of Douds, IA, Sheila Lynch and David Butts of Garrsion, IA; her sons, Larry Phelps and wife Glennys of Clarksville, TN, Kevin Phelps and wife Teena of Fairfield, IA; her grandchildren, Victor (Cheryl) Stickels, Regan (Ann) Stickels, Steven (Pam) Lynch, Teri (Bill) Phillips, Tom (Cindy) Lynch Jr., Tierny (Charlie) Ratti, Tabetha (James) Fletcher, Sarah (Joe) Hines, Heidi (Mike) Wirth, Morgan (Chris) Phelps, April (James) Bramow and Ben Ferguson; 26 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren; her special niece, Kay Gohr and her hospice nurse and angel, Erin Williams.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers and sisters and one grandson, Tim Lynch.
