BLAIRSTOWN: R. Dewayne “Big D” Fisher, age 73, passed away on April 26, 2006 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following several courageous battles with cancer.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 1 P.M., on Saturday, April 29, 2006 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Blairstown with Father Keith L. Birch as Celebrant. Interment will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Blairstown. The visitation will also be held at the church, from 4 to 7 P.M., on Friday. A Vigil Service will begin at 7 P.M.

Born May 31, 1932 in Blairstown, the son of Ralph and Laura (Stowe) Fisher, Dewayne attended country school for eight years and graduated from Blairstown Consolidated Schools with the class of 1951.

On July 24, 1953 he married Mary Jane Wilhelm. He became employed at the Blairstown Feed Mill in 1952. After serving with the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, and returning from Germany, he resumed his employment at the feedmill. On September 8, 1978 Dewayne and Mary Jane purchased the Blairstown Feed Mill and the family business later expanded to include Fisher Feed and Fertilizer in Norway.

Dewayne was a past member of the Blairstown Fire Department and Blairstown Lions Club, He served on the Blairstown City Council, and as a volunteer on the Ambulance Service. He is an honorary member of the Blairstown American Legion and a member of St. John’s Catholic Church.

Left to honor his memory are his wife, Mary Jane; his children, Jeanne (Gary) Steichen of Woonsocket, SD, Jack (Tami) Fisher of Blairstown, James Fisher of Blairstown, Joseph (Tracie) Fisher of Vinton, Jay (Therese) Fisher of Blairstown, and Jodi (Shawn) Erger of Norway;; his grandchildren, Stephanie (David) Lund, James Steichen, Sarah Steichen, Jason Fisher, Jackelyn Fisher, Miranda Fisher, Nicholas Fisher, Noah Fisher, Monti (Marcia) Fisher, Marti Fisher, Tanysha Fisher, Reilly Fisher, Rebecca Fisher, Jena Erger and Paige Erger; and his sister, Betty Kimm of Guernsey.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Donald and Richard Fisher.

The love for his business and family will always shine through his beloved grandchildren.
