ATKINS:  The Lord took Rose Marie Popenhagen, age 90, home on  Monday, October 2, 2006 at the Vinton Lutheran Home following an extended illness.
     Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins with Rev. Douglas Woltemath officiating.  Interment will be held at St. Stephen's Cemetery near Atkins.  The visitation will also be held at the church in Atkins from 4 to 7 PM, today.
     Rose was born July 26, 1916 at Shellsburg to Fred and Lizabeth (Kreutner) Kray and attend St. John's Lutheran School in Newhall.  On January 15, 1936 she married Roy A. Popenhagen at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins.  He preceded her in death on April 13, 2002.
     Rose was an active member of her congregation and a member of the Ladies Society of the LWML.  A loving mother and grandmother, she enjoyed baking for family and friends.
     Rose is survived by her sons, Kenneth (Carol) Popenhagen of Atkins, and Norman (Margie) Popenhagen of Cedar Rapids; her grandchildren, Rick (Ellen) Popenhagen of Atkins, Rob Popenhagen of North Liberty, Jennifer Simmons of Marion, and Jeff (Carrie) Popenhagen of Cedr Rapids; her great grandchildren, Dane, Ella and Kade Popenhagen all of Cedar Rapids, and Drew Simmons of Marion; and her sister-in-law, Elsie Kray of Sheraton, Iowa.
     In addition to her parents and husband, She was preceded in death by her son, Richard; and two brothers, William and Karl Kray.
     A memorial fund has been established.  Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
