CEDAR RAPIDS: Robert H. Swenson, age 67, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, August 7, 2008 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha following a short illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 11, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Vinton with Rev. John Karrick officiating. Interment will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids with graveside military rites. Friends may call at the Phillips Family Center 605 2nd Avenue in Vinton from 2:00 until 6:00 P.M. on Sunday.
Robert was born February 28, 1941 at Cedar Rapids to Harlan and Helen (Menne) Swenson. He was a member of the first graduating class form Washington High School in 1959. Robert served his Country in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965, attaining the rank of E-5. He worked as a machinist at Rockwell-Collins for 39 years, retiring in 1998.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Vinton for many years, where he had served as a deacon and trustee. In his spare time, Robert enjoyed woodworking and travel.
He is survived by his three children; Susan (Wayne) Epperson of Shellsburg, Kathy (Dan) Boblit of Buffalo, IA and Richard (Petra) Swenson of Cedar Rapids, five grandchildren; Matthew, Amanda, Drew, Kyle and Alexandra, three brothers; Jerry Swenson and Stan (Wendy) Swenson all of Cedar Rapids and Don (Carol) Swenson of Alpharetta, GA. and two sisters; Betty (Al) Haworth of Williamsburg and Diana (Harold) Mealhouse of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter Elizabeth Marie.
A memorial fund has been established.
