| ATKINS: Rose Elizabeth Wilhelmi, 100, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006 in Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids after a short illness. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, July 29, 2006 at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins with Rev. Douglas Woltemath officiating. Interment will be held at St. Stephen's Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 PM Friday evening at the church in Atkins. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Mae Wilhelmi of Atkins, her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and John Edwards of Cedar Rapids, her daughter-in-law, Betty Wilhelmi Daake of Linn Creek, MO; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter in 1994 , her son, Richard in 1995, five brothers, Elmer, Ralph, John, Charles, William Rammelsberg and a sister, Laura Wilhelmi. Rose was born August 18, 1905 in Atkins, a daughter of William and Anna (Krug) Rammelsberg. She graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids and taught country school until her marriage to Walter Wilhelmi on December 14, 1927 in St. St. Stephen's Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in the area and retired in Atkins in 1959. Rose was a life long member of Sst. Stephen's Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school, was active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, the Quilting group and the Fellowship Club. Following retirement to Atkins, Rose worked as a salesperson at Killian Dept. Store and later Armstrong's Dept. Store. Rose had a variety of interest. As a young farm wife she enjoyed serving with the Iowa State Extension Farm Woman's Organization. She was a generous gardener, a voracious reader, enjoyed traveling, and especially living during the winter months in Arizona, for over 30 years. A memorial fund has been established. Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone is in charge of arrangements. |
