WATKINS:  Sylvester Herman Kahle, age 84, died Sunday, November 2, 2008 at Colonial Manor in Amana following an extended illness. 
     A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, November 6, 2008 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Watkins with Father Jack McClure as Celebrant.  Interment will be held at St. Patrick's and St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery near Watkins.  Public Visitation will also be held at the church in Watkins from 3 to 8 PM on Wednesday, where a Vigil Service will be held at 7 PM.
     Sylvester was born October 1, 1924 on a farm south of Watkins to Herman and Eleanor (Schulte) Kahle.  On November 18, 1946 he married Irene Kvetensky at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Norway and this year they would have celebrated sixty-two years of marriage.
     Sylvester farmed in the Watkins area his entire life and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Watkins and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters for sixty-four years.
     He is survived by his wife, Irene of Watkins; his daughters, Carolyn (Merrill) Mecklenburg of Luzerne, and Marchell Kahle Pickart of Blairstown; his sons, James (Mary) Kahle of Marengo, and Robert Kahle of Thousand Oaks, CA; thirteen grandchildren, Thad Pickart, AF Major, Damien (Vanessa) Pickart, Rachel Pickart and Erin (Erik) Schulte, Mike (Sara) Mecklenburg, Melissa (Brett) Lerch, Christian (Audra) Kahle, Courtney Kahle, Brad, Cole, Danielle, Dustin and Savannah Kahle; and seven great-grandchildren, Caroline and Alex Pickart, Aidan and Reece Lerch, Abigail Mecklenburg, Drew Kahle and Calvin Schulte; his sisters, Thelma Kahle Serbousek of Fairfax and Letha Kahle Atherton Monroe of Cedar Rapids.
      In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Steven John Kahle; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Raphael and Corleen Kahle and Francis and Bonnie Kahle.
      Phillips Funeral Home in Blairstown is in charge of arrangements.
