VINTON:  Velmadeen "Dee" Shaw, age 81, of Cedar Falls and formerly of Vinton, died
Sunday, January 21, 2007 at the Cedar Falls Health Care Center following an extended illness.
     Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th St. in Vinton with Rev. Stephen J. Oharek officiating.  Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday.  A Memorial Fund has been established.
     Dee was born May 14, 1925 at Ventura, Iowa to John and Flora (Hesley) Grell and graduated from the Clear Lake High School in 1942. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls.
     On January 21, 1945 she married John Shaw at Clear Lake, Iowa.
     While living in Vinton, Dee was employed by the Vinton School System, the Benton County Court House, the former Brenton Bank, and John Deere Manufacturing.  She enjoyed bowling, reading, knitting, racing, and music.  When her travels took her to warmer climates, she loved to walk along the beaches.  Dee served at a volunteer at her church and at Allen Hospital.  Her greatest joy came from attending her grandchildren's sports events and enjoying their hobbies.
     She is survived by her four sons, Steven John Shaw of Ashville, NC, Stanley Curtis Shaw of Washburn, IA, Allan Edwin (Rhonda) Shaw of Cedar Falls, IA, and David Leslie (Deana) Shaw of Temecula, CA; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and great and great-great nieces and nephews.
     She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jimmy Lee Shaw; a daughter, Jean Marie Shaw; six brothers; and five sisters.
