DYSART - Walter "Walt" Kusel, age 87, died Thursday, July 26, 2007 at his family farm following an extended illness.
     Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, July 30, 2007 at Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart. Interment will be held at the Dysart Cemetery.  Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Keystone from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday.  A memorial fund has been established.
     Walt was born June 25, 1920 to Charles and Martha (Erentstein) Kusel on the family farm near Dysart.  He graduated from the Dysart High School in 1939 and then attended Iowa State University.
     On September 12, 1942 he married Helen M. Alpers in Kahoka, MO.  The couple farmed where Walt was born for many years retiring in 1994.  Helen preceded her husband in death on May 26, 1998..
    Walt was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart where he served on the Church Board and was also a member of the Farm Bureau.
     He is survived by his daughter, Dianne Nekola of Des Moines; three grandchildren, Brett, Dawn, and Jody Nekola; two great-grandchildren, Chas and Chance Nekola; and his sister, Lorena Tompkins of Kansas City.
