Obituary

NEWHALL:  Al Krug, age 95, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 15, 2026, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, June 19, 2026 at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall with Rev. Nick Palmer officiating.  Interment will take place following the service at St. John Lutheran Cemetery near Newhall.  The family will greet friends from 9:00 until 10:15 a.m., Friday, at the church in Newhall, prior to the service.  A memorial fund has been established.

Al was born on March 22, 1931, on the Krug farm in Fremont Township, Benton County, to Fredrich and Juliet (Swanson) Krug.  Al served his Country in the United States Army, in Korea from 1952 until his discharge in 1954.  On November 13, 1954, he was united in marriage to Lola Maye Brehm at Zion Lutheran Church in Shellsburg.  Al and Lola Maye moved to Newhall from Cedar Rapids in 1957, where they designed and built their "Forever Home".  Al worked as an accountant at Wilson Foods for 28 years, and was the Newhall City Clerk, beginning in 1979, until his retirement.

Al and Lola Maye were active members of St. John Lutheran Church, where they enjoyed membership in the Friendship Club.  Al and Lola Maye enjoyed working security for University of Iowa Athletics for over 25 years and were also members of a 500 card club in Newhall for over 50 years.  Al and Lola Maye enjoyed sports and were avid Hawkeye and Cub fans.  Al was an accomplished photographer and loved to take pictures for many community functions.  He also had his own dark room at his home.  He dearly loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.

Al is survived by his children, Kathleen (Eric) Goslinga of Marshalltown, and Stephen (Margrate) Krug of Hartwick; his grandchildren, Matthew Krug, Daniel and Dalton Goslinga; step grandchildren, Miranda Tyson, and Elijah Jones; his sister-in-law Ann Brehm of Middleton, ID and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Lola Maye in 2019; brother Elmer (Virginia) Krug; sister, Dorothy (Frederick) Bayer; and his brothers-in-law, Franklin Brehm, Russell (Rose) Brehm, and Ronald (Sandy) Brehm.
