Obituary

BLAIRSTOWN: Allen “Blackie” Ehrman, 76, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2026, at his home in Blairstown.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, October 20, at St. John Catholic Church in Blairstown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, followed by a graveside service with full military honors at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the church following the graveside service, with a social gathering afterward at the Blairstown Legion Hall.

Allen was born on January 21, 1950, to Harold and Alice (Voss) Ehrman. He grew up on the family dairy farm, attended school in Blairstown, and graduated from Benton Community High School. Throughout his youth, he was active in 4-H, showing dairy cattle at local, state, and national shows, where he developed many lifelong friendships. Following graduation, Blackie enlisted in the Army Reserves and continued working in agriculture, milking cows, driving semi, and farming. He also enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball with many of his friends.

On July 21, 1979, he was united in marriage to Sue Schmuecker at St. John Catholic Church in Blairstown. Together, they raised three children, Lance, Cassie, and Christina. In later years, Allen and Sue enjoyed many winter vacations together, making memories with their family and friends.

Blackie was a familiar face throughout the community and truly never knew a stranger. He had a gift for making friends wherever he went and treated everyone he met like family. He was a dedicated member of the Blairstown American Legion, spent many years coaching Blairstown youth baseball and softball, and was actively involved in the Ayrshire Breeders Association.

He loved spending time outdoors, whether working outside, mowing his lawn, or enjoying a day of fishing. Most of all, he treasured time with his family. His grandchildren brought him tremendous joy, and he loved spending time with them and attending their activities.

Allen is survived by his wife, Sue; his children, Lance Ehrman, Cassie (Nick) Sawyer, and Christina (Chris) Anderson; his grandchildren, Harold Ehrman, George Ehrman, Dawson Sawyer, Kota Sawyer, Kinzey Sawyer, Jack Sawyer, Graham Anderson, Duncan Anderson, and Oliver Anderson; along with many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Alice Ehrman; and his brother, Wayne Ehrman.
