VINTON:  Bernice Anita Becker, age 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at the Vinton Lutheran Home, surrounded by LOVE.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, December 17, 2021 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vinton, with Father Jim Brokman as Celebrant.   Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 PM, Thursday, at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6 ^th Street) in Vinton.  Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton.

Bernice was born, on June 1, 1930 at Prince Edward Island Canada, the daughter of John "Jack" and Mary (MacIsaac) MacDonald.  She graduated from high school in Canada and attended college for two years, receiving her teaching certificate.  After college, Bernice traveled to Boston, MA, where she met Anthony "Tony" Becker, who was serving in the United States Navy.  On February 12, 1955, the couple married in Boston, and Tony brought her to Iowa and introduced her to farm life.

Bernice worked at REM as a caregiver, and as a House Parent at the Iowa Braille School.  Bernice and Tony were also very involved in the construction and maintenance of Rails to Trails.  She loved to travel, and "outfish" Tony.  Her greatest joy was her family, especially watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up.

She is survived by her children, Gregory (Ranae) Becker,  and Margaret Stewart; grandchildren, Caleb (Amanda) Stewart and Nash Stewart, Josh and Nicole Becker, Natasha Becker, Nicole (Louie) Trachta; and her great-grandchildren, Mia Stewart, Alyx Becker, Aiden, Eva, and Everly Trachta.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Tony; brothers, Alex MacDonald, Leonard MacDonald, Clarence MacDonald; and sisters, Anna Cloutier, Gen Fail, and Edna MacKinnon.
