KEYSTONE: Charlene A. Pickart, 88, died Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Unity Point St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5:00 PM, on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Keystone Turner Hall beginning at 4:00 PM on Monday, refreshments will be served. Family Committal Services will be held at the Keystone Cemetery.
Charlene was born February 6, 1936, at Moline, IL to Maurice and Irene (Van Hamme) Van Horbeck, and graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1954.
On June 22, 1954, she was united in marriage to John Pickart at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Belle Plaine.
Charlene worked at the Keystone Turners for over 40 years. She was very proud of the fact that she was the first female manager of the Turners and was always able to keep the club in the black. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Keystone Turnerettes, ladies bowling league, and the Bunco card club. Charlene and John enjoyed playing cards and were avid Iowa Hawkeye fans. In addition to playing cards, Charlene enjoyed reading and embroidery in her spare time. Following retirement, Charlene volunteered as a patient advocate at the Keystone Nursing Care Center.
Charlene is survived by her children, Larry (Lori) Pickart of Robins, Vicky (Rick) Myers of Palo, Cathy Becker of Atkins, and Darin Pickart of Keystone; daughter-in-law, Dorene Pickart of Keystone; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren, her sister, Maureen Kern of Cedar Rapids, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; son, Tim Pickart; son-in-law, Roger Becker; and her brother, Richard Van Horbeck.
The family would like to thank the Keystone First Responders, Belle Plaine Ambulance, the Keystone Nursing Care Center and Unity Point Hospice for their loving care of Charlene.
