CEDAR RAPIDS:  Darrel J. Nye, age 77, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at his home in Cedar Rapids, with his family by his side.

A Celebration of Darrel's Life will be held from 1:00 until 5:00 PM, Saturday, November 6, 2021 at May City Bowl in Cedar Rapids.  Memorials may be forwarded to 422 24 ^th St. NW Cedar Rapids, IA 52405

Darrel was born on April 14, 1944 in Cedar Rapids, to Jack and Eileen (Tubbs) Nye, and graduated from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids with the class of 1962.  He served his country in the United States Navy from 1962 through 1966, attaining the rank of E-5.

Darrel married Mary Lewis and the couple later divorced.  He later married Angie Richardson and they also divorced.  Darrel loved sports and competed in volleyball and football leagues in his younger days.  He loved to bowl and play poker and was a loyal fan of the Chicago Bears and Cubs.  He truly loved and cared for his family; they were his greatest joy.

He is survived by his children, Scott (Cindy) Nye, Pamela Nye, Sean Nye, Sara (John) Griffin, and Cory Nye, all of Cedar Rapids; 9 grandchildren, Conner, Alex, Brayden, Amiyah, Kailyn, Kyson, Calvin, Wyatt, and Kenrick; 3 brothers, Mike (Cora) Nye of Panama City, FL, Tim Nye of Cedar Rapids, Greg (Becky) Puckhaber of Newton; and his sister Cathy Breedlove of Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Bonnie Horak; and brother Patrick Nye.
