VINTON:  Dennis Dayle VanDeVenter, age 78, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Harmony Cedar Rapids

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Thursday, November, 7, 2024 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton (212 E. 6th Street). Graveside services will be held at Maplewood Cemetery at 3:30 PM following the celebration of life with full military honors.

Dennis was born on December 23, 1945 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Joseph and Inez (Runyon) VanDeVenter.  He graduated from Washington High School, with the Class of 1963.  On January 14, 1967, he was united in marriage to Barbara Hilliard at Wesley Methodist Church in Vinton.

Dennis worked as a pastor at Assembly of God in Vinton and Oxford Junction. He also did painting and drywalling. He enjoyed photography, fishing, and riding his motorcycle. He also enjoyed Karate where he was a black belt. His faith was very important to him.

He is survived by his wife Barbara of Vinton; children, Coreen (Greg) Wildebour of Marion and Joe VanDeVenter of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Heather (Wayne) Watley, Ryan (Angel) Wildebour, Isaac VanDeVenter, and Ian VanDeVenter; greatgranchildren, Liam Wildebour, and Silas Watley.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
