ATKINS:  Diane Beatty, age 81, died Monday, August 11, 2025 at the Gardens in Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 16, 2025 at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton.  Interment will be held at Raetz Cemetery, rural Atkins.  Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until service time on Saturday, also at the funeral home.

Diane was born on August 27, 1943 in Atkins, the daughter of Wallace and Leona (Schlotterbeck) Ness.  She graduated from Atkins High School with the class of 1961. She worked at FMC and later Rockwell-Collins, retiring in 2001.

Diane spent time with her partner and friend, Don Risdal for over 36 years.  Diane enjoyed watching game shows on T.V. and scratch tickets.  She also enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles. She had a special fondness for her fur grand-baby Ginger.  Her greatest joy came from spending time with her daughters, and grandsons, and she enjoyed sitting outside drinking a cold beer on a Sunday afternoon.

She is survived by her daughters, Shelley (Rob Koopman) Lauterwasser, Debbie (Terry) Larson all of Atkins; and her two grandsons, Brandon Lauterwasser of Newhall and Austin (Tyler) Lautke of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Ronald Ness and sisters, Donna Geater, and Betty Novotny.
