SHELLSBURG:  Donald C. Montgomery, 69, passed away on Monday, April 12, 2021 in Shellsburg.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, April 16, 2021 at The Church of Grace in Shellsburg, with Rev. Brian Reeves officiating.  Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 PM, Thursday at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6 ^th Street) in Vinton.  The wearing of masks and social distancing will be at your own discretion.  A memorial fund has been established.

Don was born on December 16, 1951 at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton to Frank C. and Dorothy (Jarmon) Montgomery. He graduated from Shellsburg High School in 1972. Don worked as a custodian at Shellsburg Community School for 42 Years.

Don loved history and watching old movies, he also loved to "gab".  He was devoted to his canine companion and friend Sammy.

He is survived by his nieces, Rhonda (Don) Pearson of Vinton, Dawn (Steve) Spencer of Hiawatha; nephew, Scott (Kim) Montgomery of Sharpsburg, GA; many nieces and nephews; and his longtime friends Retta and the late Bob Rice.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother William (Bonnie) Montgomery.
