Obituary

VINTON:  Doris Evans passed away October 12th 2023, at the Keystone Care Center with her family by her side.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 21st at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church in Vinton. Burial at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am at the church.

Doris Catherine Albers was born at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton on February 17th, 1942; the daughter of John and Elsie (Cohrt) Albers.

Doris graduated from Vinton High School in 1960. After graduation she was employed as a bookkeeper at the Vinton Hybrid where she met her future husband. On April 16th, 1961, she was united in marriage to Gail Franklin Evans at the Evangelical United Brethren church in Vinton. Gail preceded her in death on October 13, 1999.

Doris was a homemaker and caregiver to her family. She enjoyed shopping, collecting dolls, especially American Girl dolls and was an avid reader of books and newspapers. Her greatest joy was her family, putting many miles on her vehicle visiting the grandchildren. She had been a resident of Windsor Manor for 10 years and moved to Keystone Care Center August 2022. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a lifelong member of the Mount Auburn Legion Auxiliary.

Doris is survived by her five children, Lorry Evans, Teresa (Gordon) Floyd, Danny (Sandy) Evans, Karen (Bret) Smith and David (Andrea) Evans. Twelve grandchildren, Patrick Floyd, Nathanael (Jessica Lieb) Smith, Nicholas (Leslie) Smith, Samantha Floyd, Colton Smith, Breanne (Ben) Steenhoven, Corrine Smith, Sonnie Evans, Jennelle Smith, Russell Evans, Jon Evans and Kail Evans. Six great grandchildren, Cort, Charlotte, Abram, Ledger, Kohen and Wilkes. Brother Ralph (Mary Ann Cue) Albers. Nieces Kathi Hight, Sue Belmer and Jamie Harter. Several Cohrt cousins and their families. Beloved grand dog Scruffy who made regular visits to the care center.

In addition to her husband and her parents she is preceded in death by her brother John Albers, sister-in-law Mary Albers and great grandson Lane Alan Smith.
