SHELLSBURG: Dorothy Marie Hartwig, age 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Crestview Acres in Marion.
A Celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at the Ray and Virginia Boyer American Legion Post in Shellsburg from 2:00 until 4:00 PM, Sunday, March 1, 2020. Memorials may be sent to Kenneth Hartwig at 1485 Grand Avenue. Marion, Iowa 52302.
Dorothy was born on April 12, 1940, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Dale and Bernita (Quackenbush) Trimble. She graduated from Marion High School with the class of 1958. On November 4, 2000, She was united in marriage to Kenneth Hartwig in Shellsburg.
Dorothy was a member of the Shellsburg American Legion Auxiliary. She loved the outdoors, and enjoyed gardening, and hunting mushrooms and ginseng when her health allowed.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth of Marion; 3 daughters, Jo (Tom) Cliff of Sigourney, Diane Kepler of Elberon, and LeAnna (Randy) Wheeler of Vinton; 8 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter; 2 sisters, Kate (Scott) Sanders, and Doris Lovlett, all of Cedar Rapids; her step-children, LeRoy (Deb) Hartwig of Center Junction, Harold (Julie) Hartwig of Monticello, Beatrice (Curtis) Hochalter of Pensacola, Fl, Karl (Cheryl) Hartwig of Vinton, Judy Bechthold of Worthington, Joe (Brandy) Hartwig of Oxford Junction, Leon Hartwig of Cedar Rapids and numerous step-grand and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters, Sandra Trimble in infancy, Alice VanWoert, and Velma Hepker; her brother Marvin Trimble; and her step-son Larry Hartwig.
The family wishes to thank Dorothy's special family at Crestview Acres and Mercy Hospice for their friendship and loving care.
