VAN HORNE: Dorothy (Walton) Kalinay, 94, died Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the Keystone Care Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Van Horne, with Father Jacob Dunne as celebrant. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. also at the church in Van Horne. Burial will take place at Rector Cemetery in Chelsea following the reception.
Dorothy was born on September 1, 1930 to Frank and Mayme (Dvorak) Hayek in Chelsea, Iowa. She graduated from Chelsea High School with the class of 1947 as the Valedictorian of her class. On September 8, 1956 she was united in marriage to Donald Walton in Anamosa, Iowa. Following his passing she later married Larry Kalinay. She worked as a cashier at Merchants Savings Bank in Cedar Rapids, and at Chelsea Savings Bank. She was also employed at Newport's Greenhouse.
She enjoyed gardening, flowers, crossword puzzles, reading books, camping, and attending her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's activities. Dorothy was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Van Horne.
She is survived by her children, Cindy (Rick) Nolan of Van Horne, and Mark Walton of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Justin (Lisa) Nolan, Jessica (Chris) Walters, Jake (Sadie) Nolan, Roselyn (Bryan) Cutter, Jennifer (Michael) Cutter, and Andrew Walton; 15 great-grandchildren, sister in laws, Rosie (Richard) Wheeler, and Ruth Walton; step-children, Becky, Jon, and Debbie.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and 2 husbands, Donald and Larry.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Keystone Care Center for the loving care that was provided to Dorothy.
