KEYSTONE: Elaine Elsie (Kromminga) Selk, 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the Keystone Nursing Care Center with her family by her side.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 8, 2026, at St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone, with Rev. Josiah Schultz officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM prior to services.
Elaine was born on September 25, 1934, on the family farm, south of Keystone to Ferdinand "Fred" and Else (Harder) Kromminga. She was baptized on November 18, 1934, and confirmed on March 21, 1948, at St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone, where she was a lifelong member. Elaine graduated from Keystone High School in 1952. She worked as a bookkeeper in Cedar Rapids following high school. Elaine was united in marriage to Kenneth Selk at St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone on February 12, 1955.
Elaine and Ken farmed for most of their married life. She worked at Funk's in Belle Plaine and later at the Keystone Nursing Care Center. She was a member of the Dorcas Guild at St. John, and the Keystone Turnerettes. Elaine was a member of several card clubs and bowling leagues. She had a large garden and enjoyed raising flowers on the farm. Elaine always had homemade chocolate chip cookies on hand. Elaine and Ken loved spending time with their grandchildren and rarely missed one of their events.
Elaine is survived by her husband of 71 years, Kenneth; her children, Rick Selk of Keystone, Kevin (Pamela) Selk of Cedar Rapids, Gina (Jim) Krug of Newhall, Neil (Freda) Selk of Iowa City; 6 grandchildren, Tyler (Devyn) Krug, Anna (Jesse Lumpa) Krug, Mason (Maddie Yenter) Selk, Aaron Selk, Colsen Selk, and Easton Selk; step-grandson, Andy (Maria) Holtz; 3 great-grandchildren, Lakyn, Landry, and Daltyn Krug; her sister-in-law, Mardean Kromminga.
She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father Henry Buck, brothers, Edmund (Genevieve) Kromminga, Donald "Dutch" Kromminga, and Duane (Elaine) Kromminga, and step-sister Margarite (James) Wilmore.
