NEWHALL: Joan Werning Anders, 92, passed away at her home on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

Funeral Service will be held on 10:30 AM, Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall with Pastor Nick Palmer officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:15 AM., also at the church. Interment will be held at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Newhall. A luncheon will be held at the church following interment.

Joan was born on September 1, 1933 in Atlanta, Missouri, to Olin and Celia (Hall) Baldwin. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton in 1950. She was united in marriage to Donald Werning on February 11, 1956 in El Paso, Texas. He preceded Joan in death in 1999. She was united in marriage to Donald Anders on February 14, 2003 at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall. Donald passed away in 2023. She was both a farm wife and worked many years for Von Maur.

Joan was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church and was a member of the Newhall American Legion Auxiliary. She was also an avid gardener.

She is survived by her children, Sheryl (Jerry) Brehm and Steven (Barbara) Werning; her grandchildren, Josh Werning, Evan Brehm, and Ethan Brehm; her great-grandchildren, Maximus Werning, Levi Werning, Asher Werning, Reid Brehm, Elsie Brehm, Caiden Brehm, Hayes Brehm, and Ridge Brehm; her step-children, Alan (Diana) Anders and Linda (Galen) Kerkman; 9 step-grandchildren, and 6 step-great-grandchildren; and her sister Pat (Larry) Davis of Urbandale.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Olin and Celia; her husbands, Donald Werning and Donald Anders; and her siblings, Faye Cummings, Nola Lindahl, Mardene Schulke, and Edwin Baldwin.

Memorials can be made in her name to St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall, Meals on Wheels, or a charity of the donor's choice.
