CEDAR RAPIDS: Joann K Albertsen, 68, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at her daughter’s home after a courageous battle with cancer.

A Celebration of Joann’s life will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2026 at Pheasant Ridge Lodge (Morgan Creek Park), 1300 Morgan Creek Park Lane NW in Cedar Rapids from 1:00 until 5:00 PM. A memorial fund has been established.

Joann was born March 26, 1958 in Audubon, Iowa, daughter of Merlin and Lucille (Rees) Barrett. She graduated from Audubon High School with the class of 1977.

Joann ran a test market for Pizza Hut in Greenfield, IA and was instrumental in creating the Pizza Hut Bread Stick. She moved to Benton County, and worked as a cook at Benton Community High School for several years. Joann operated her own house cleaning business throughout Benton County. The cleaning part was secondary, as Joann loved her loyal customers and often brought special treats on most visits. She was a master at cooking and baking and loved to share her creations. Joann truly loved her family, especially her beloved grandchildren. One of her passions was “Love Matters” her non-profit that helped needy families with clothing and food.

Left to cherish Joann’s memory is her daughters, and grandchildren, Jade (Shawn) Nutt, and their children Hunter, Andi, and Charli, of Atkins, Amanda (Ethan) Scheer, and their son Miles, of Cloquet, MN; her brother-in-law Ron Jensen of Rochester, MN; and many special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Jerry, Earl & Cleo Barrett; and her sister Marlene Jensen.
