VINTON:  Joann June Schrage, age 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 25, 2024, at Virginia Gay Hospital with her family by her side.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday April 2, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton, with Rev. Stephen Preus officiating.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until service time at the church.  Private family interment will be held at The Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel.

Joann was born on June 11, 1933, in Vinton, the daughter of Henry and Mabel (McIntyre) Alpers.  Joann graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton with the class of 1951.  On November 13, 1960, she was united in marriage to Orville Schrage at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton.

Joann worked at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids prior to her marriage.  While raising her family, she also worked as a cook for many years at Benton Community Schools and Vinton Consolidated Schools.  Joann was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church.  She enjoyed golfing, and will be remembered fondly for her quick wit and dry sense of humor.

She is survived by her husband of almost 64 years, Orville; 3 children, Ernie (Lori) Schrage of Cedar Rapids, Jodi (Kevin) Kofron of Tipton, Jon (shelley) Schrage of Ottumwa; 5 grandchildren, Nicole Schrage, Jill (Tyler) Lange, Jamie Kofron, Jada Schrage, Brody Schrage; 3 great-grandchildren, Brianna, and Zoey Schrage, and Addalynn Lange; and her brother, Russell Alpers of Vinton

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Ian Schrage, 4 brothers, Roy, Lester, Harold, and Stanley Alpers; and 4 sisters, Lucille Cole, Mildred Fowler, Ruth Lyons, and Mae Wilhelmi.
