VINTON:  Leo Gerald Ockenfels, age 86, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at his Vinton home with his loving family by his side.

Private family services will be held.  The family requests no memorials or flowers.  If you would like, just plant a tree in Leo's memory.

Leo was born on February 13, 1939, in Watkins, IA, to Leo and Jeanette (Lichty) Ockenfels.  He graduated from St. Patrick's Catholic High School in Iowa City.   On July 8, 1961, he was united in marriage to Coleen Hoyt at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Iowa City.

Leo worked as an over the road truck driver during his working life.  He and Coleen lived in Arizona, prior to returning to Iowa.  Spending time with his family was Leo's greatest joy.  He also enjoyed time spent at the Vinton Country Club, playing golf and replaying the round with a beer in the clubhouse bar with his friends.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Coleen; his children, Loraine (Brett) Kelty of Vinton, Anthony (Jennifer) Ockenfels of Center Point, Dewey (Justine) Ockenfels of Urbana, and Eric (Kathy) Ockenfels of Urbana; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; his brother James (Terry) Ockenfels; and his sister, Bernadette Carratura.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents; and 8 brothers, and sisters.
