VINTON: Margery Devee Smith passed away October 20, 2018 at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab Center in Vinton.

A M emorial S ervice will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church, 516 2 ^nd Avenue, Vinton, IA, on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. Family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.

Marge was born to Car l and Ella Schaffer on April 29, 1924 , on the family farm near Alburnette .    She attended school s in Alburnett e from Kindergarten to High School graduating with the Class of 1942 . Marge was united in marriage to Milton A. Smith on July 3, 1943, in Central City , and t he couple resided in Linn and Benton counties all of their married lives. They settled in Vinton where they raised their family and were long time members of Wesley United Methodist Church. They enjoyed traveling and between 1990 and 2000, they pulled their camping trailer to Sleepy Vall e y Ranch in Mission, TX, every winter. There , they enjoyed the warm weather, playing cards, seeing old friends and making and new ones .   Marge and Milt were married for 70 years.

Marge is survived by her son, Phillip E. (Martha) Smith of Cedar Rapids, her daughter Patricia A. Hoover of Des Moines, 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren .  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Milton A. Smith, her son William H. Smith, and her son-in-law Richard Hoover.
