VINTON:  Maxine I. Raitt, 96 died Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at the Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she had been a resident since June of 2014.  Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM, Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth Street in Vinton with Rev. Jessica Crane-Munoz officiating. Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the funeral home on Saturday.

She was born March 10, 1922 near Brandon, the daughter of Merrill and Neva Evans. Maxine graduated from Vinton High School in May 1940. On March 17, 1941 she married Louis Raitt in Rock Island, Illinois.

Maxine worked at the Recorder's and Auditor's offices at the Vinton courthouse. She also worked as an aide at the Vinton Hospital for several years. For about 20 years she cared for people in their homes. An article about her work was published in the Involvement Magazine by Kirkwood Community College.

Maxine cared for her husband "Touie" in their home for many years before his death in 1998.

She is survived by daughter Lynette and husband, Doug, Cedar Rapids; son Tom and wife, Heidi, Yorkville, Ill; and daughter-in-law, Sherry, Evansdale; grandchildren Nick (Jennifer), Chela (Rob), Louis, Randi (Josh), Jake (Ashlie), and Grant.; great-grandchildren Michael, Candace, Greta, Cooper, Jessie, Stella, Madeline, Maxine, Levi, Brandon, and Lettie; and great-great grandchildren, Isaiah, Malakhi, and Gavin; a brother Roger, Marion; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Louis, her son, Terry; her brothers, Bob, Lyle, Gail; and her sister, Nadine.
