Obituary

KEYSTONE:  Maxine Walters, 92 died Sunday, December 23, 2018 at her home following a sudden illness.  Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, December 29, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone with Rev. B. Andrew Wright officiating.  Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until service time at the church on Saturday.  Interment will be in the Keystone Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to the St. John Lutheran Church or the Keystone Cemetery Association.  Online condolences may be left at: www.phillipsfuneralhomes.com .

Maxine was born February 19, 1926 in Keystone, Iowa.  She graduated from Keystone Consolidated Schools.  Maxine also graduated from the Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls.  She was united in marriage to Kenneth Walters.

Maxine taught school at the Keystone Consolidated School District and later for Benton Community Schools as a Study Hall and Computer Labe Monitor.  She retired from the school district at the age of 80.  She also had a painting business in Keystone.  She enjoyed beautifying the community of Keystone as well as the friendly conversations with her customers.

She was a longtime and dedicated member of St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone where she was involved in church council, Quilters Club, Dorcas Guild and teaching Sunday School and at the day school.  Maxine dedicated her life to church, education and agriculture.  She was environmentally conscious before it was popular and was known to get groceries for people in the community that no longer drove out of town.  She served as a 4-H leader, Brownie Leader, was a member of the Literary Club and the Legion Auxiliary.  Maxine had a servant heart and was always caring for someone including visiting residents of the Keystone Care Center.  She loved her community and was an ardent supporter of anything Keystone.

She is survived by her daughters, Sharon (William) Beck of Newhall and Beverly (David) Thompson of Battle Lake, Minnesota; her daughter-in-law, Claudia Walters of Dysart; her five grandchildren; her nine great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter and her sister, Shirley (Rollis) Deetz of Cedar Rapids.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Bertha; her husband, Kenneth; her son, Ronald; her sister, Mardelle and one sister in infancy and one nephew.
