OXFORD: Morgan Kay Betterton, 36, of Oxford, formerly of Shellsburg, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2026 at Unity Point St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 7th, 2026 at 2:00PM at the Oak Grove Church (6101 32nd Avenue) Shellsburg, IA.
Our blessed Morgan Kay (Rosebud) was born March 9, 1990 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Chuck and Kim (Mahurin) Betterton. She graduated from Vinton-Shellsburg High School with the class of 2008. Morgan served her Country in the Army Medical Corps and later worked as a Phlebotomist at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in the Dialysis Center.
Morgan was a true free spirit with an artistic soul and a heart full of love. She had a way of seeing beauty in the world and expressing herself in her own unique and creative way. She was one of a kind, never afraid to be herself, and always marched to the beat of her own drum.
One of the things people will remember most about Morgan was her beautiful, contagious smile. She had a special gift for making people laugh, often when they needed it most. Morgan's wonderful sense of humor, quick wit, and joyful personality could light up a room. She had a way of making ordinary moments unforgettable and leaving people with smiles on their faces.
Morgan knew how to enjoy the simple things in life. She loved being creative and embraced her free spirit through artwork. She lived life in her own way, with laughter in her heart, creativity in her soul, and love surrounding her. She wasn't meant to blend in or be like everyone else. She was meant to be remembered for exactly who she was.
Morgan's relationship with her brother, Charlie, was one filled with love, laughter and plenty of good-natured banter. They shared the kind of bond where teasing one another was just another way of showing love. Whether exchanging witty remarks, giving each other a hard time, or getting the last word in, their back-and-forth was part of what made their relationship so special. Those little moments of laughter and playful arguments will be treasured forever. After all, nobody could push each other's buttons quite like a brother and sister could!
Though Morgan may no longer be here to share her smile, tell a joke, or make someone laugh, the joy she brought into this world will never be forgotten. Her smile may be gone from our sight, but the laughter she left behind will echo in our hearts forever.
Morgan was preceded in death by her grandpy Randy Mahurin, her grandparents John and Pat Betterton, her cousins Zachary Mahurin and Michael Betterton.
Left to cherish Morgan's memory are her parents Chuck and Kim Betterton; brother Charlie (Sydney) Betterton and daughter Annie; her grammy Sandy Mahurin; many aunts, uncles, cousins and all who were part of her life.
In lieu of flowers, please reach out to a family member, old friend or someone you have not spoken to in a while. Let them know they matter, that they are loved.
