URBANA: Nancy Ann Schmidt, age 63, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.

A Celebration of Nancy’s Life will be held at a later date.

Nancy was born on March 2, 1963 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Marion John and Jean Ann (Fairchild) Franklin. She graduated from Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids with the class of 1981. On June 16, 2004, she was united in marriage to Keith F Schmitz in Vinton.

Nancy held a number of positions as she advanced her career at Windsor Manor in Vinton prior to her retirement. She and Keith enjoyed fishing and bow hunting in their leisure. Nancy also enjoyed creating stained glass pieces with her daughter Abby. She loved flowers, going on bike rides on her e-bike, collecting and trading postcards, and spending time around the fire pit.

She is survived by her husband Keith of Urbana; daughter Abby Anthony of Cedar Rapids; two step sons, Clinton (Nicole) Schmitz of Robins, Chad Schmitz of Chicago; two step-grandchildren, Addie and Joe Schmitz; brother, Chris (Marcia) Franklin of Hiawatha; sister Janis Franklin of Anamosa; and her half brother Steven Coomes.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
