CEDAR RAPIDS:  Paul Underwood, age 81, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2019, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 until 12:00, Saturday morning, November 23, 2019, at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6 ^th Street) in Vinton.  A time of remembrance will be held at 12:00 PM.  Family Interment will be held at Pratt Creek Cemetery North of Garrison.

Paul was born on December 16, 1937, in Vinton, the son of Ralph and Gertrude (Carey) Underwood.  He was involved in 4-H as a youth.  He served his country in the United States Army.  He married Barbara Ullerich in 1959 at Pratt Creek Church. The couple later divorced.  In 1992, he married Linda Hill in Cedar Rapids.

Paul owned and operated Underwood Demolition and Excavating in Cedar Rapids.  He had a passion for Belgian horses, breeding and showing them over the years.  He loved to attend the Old Threshers Reunion and had a fondness for antique tractors.  He was skilled at vegetable farming, helping his children to make a business of it.  Paul enjoyed singing throughout his life and passed his love of music down to his children.

He is survived by his children, Rebecca Underwood of La Valle, WI, Stephen (Dale) Underwood of Garrison, Dianna (Lyndon) Iddings of Alberta, Canada, Lowell (Elizabeth) Underwood of Fairfax, Lisa Lee of Carlisle, IA, and Ryan (Jill) Hill of Lisbon.; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Bruce (Beverly) Underwood of La Valle, WI, and Billy Underwood of Columbus, OH; 3 sisters, Marian Kisling of Oceanside, CA, Betty (Clarence) Brown of Manchester MI, Beverly Underwood of Vinton, and his sister-in-law Dolores Underwood of Springfield, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara and their son Daniel Underwood; wife Linda; grandson Jeremie Wilcox; and brother Arthur Underwood.
