VAN HORNE:  Philip Joseph Smith, 63, died Monday, November 8, 2021, at his home in Van Horne.

Private family graveside services will be held at the Keystone Cemetery.

Philip was born July 31, 1958 in Cedar Rapids, to Edward R. and Doris (DeBurn) Smith. He lived in Colorado and Arizona for several years before returning to Iowa.  He worked as a mechanic, cable installer and master printer, for the majority of his life.  Philip loved to work on "Hot Rod" vehicles, and enjoyed fishing.  He could figure out how to fix anything electronic.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Edward J. Smith, Thomas R. Smith; infant nephew Aaron Smith; and longtime companion Janit Carey.

He is survived by his sister, Janet Smith of Newhall; nephews Jarod (Carrie) Smith of Blairstown, Thomas (Abby) Smith of Atkins; great-niece, Anessa Smith of Blairstown; and many cousins.
