VAN HORNE: Randy Ellis, age 65 passed away unexpectedly at his home in Van Horne on Sunday, December 24, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, December 29, 2023, at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton, with Rev. David Lingard officiating. Interment will be held at Kisling Cemetery in Urbana. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Thursday, also at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.

Randy was born on February 7, 1958, in Vinton, the son of Leo and Dorothy (Selken) Ellis. He graduated from Benton Community High School with the class of 1976. On August 20, 1986, he was united in marriage to Tammie Rawlins in Estes Park, Colorado.

Randy retired from the City of Cedar Rapids in 2017. He also worked as an auto mechanic. He enjoyed bowling and pool league, golfing, old classic cars, playing cribbage with Tammie and spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid fan of dogs, and a big fan of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Randy is survived by his wife Tammie of Van Horne; children, Zach (Tanya) Ellis of Urbana, Danielle Ellis of Vinton; grandchildren, Levi and Kylie Ellis; brother, Larry (Nikki) Ellis of Robins; 2 sisters, Nancy Ellis of Urbana and Rosemary (Craig) Olson of Newhall, his dog Charlie, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Kent David Ellis, and his dog Bailey.
