SHELLSBURG: Roger William Haerther, 87, died Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab in Vinton.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM Monday, July 14, 2025, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins, with the Rev. Douglas Woltemath officiating. Interment will be held at St. Stephen's Cemetery, Atkins. Friends may call at the St. Stephen's Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Atkins from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday. A memorial fund has been established for the St. Stephen's Lutheran Choir or L.W.M.L.
Roger was born February 2, 1938, on the family farm to Carl and Anna (Wendel) Haerther and graduated from Atkins High School in 1956. On June 12, 1959, he was united in marriage to LaDean Meta Glandorf at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in rural Williamsburg. The couple farmed in the Atkins and Shellsburg areas and owned Haerther's Dairy in the 70's. Roger enjoyed working with his hands and was proud to work with Art Rinderknecht on the construction projects at Central Lutheran School and the St. Stephen's Fellowship Hall. He also used his time and talents working with Habitat for Humanity. He and LaDean were active in the Atkins Community Club and enjoyed Square Dancing with the Wheel'n Dealers. They were also members of several card clubs through the years.
He is survived by his children, Bonnie (Patrick) Thompson of Shellsburg, Connie McQuiston of Atkins, Brian (Vikki) Haerther of Springville and Rodney (Julie) Haerther of Atkins; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife LaDean in 2013; grandson Nicholas Haerther, and his sister Mary Lou Brehmer.
