Obituary

CEDAR RAPIDS:  Ronald Albert Baker, 53, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 19, 2021, at his home in Cedar Rapids.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 PM, Friday, July 23, 2021 at Murdoch Linwood Funeral Home (520 Wilson Ave. SW) Cedar Rapids, IA.  Private family graveside services will be held at St. John Cemetery in Newhall.  A memorial fund has been established.  Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton, is in charge of arrangements.

Ron was born on April 26, 1968, in Sikeston, MO.    He graduated from Sikeston Senior High School in 1986 and attended South West Baptist University in Bolivar, MO.  On June 6, 2015, he was united in marriage to Mary Werning in Cedar Rapids.  Ron adored his wife, Mary.  The love they shared was an inspiration to so many.  Ron worked as a sports radio broadcaster and loved coaching at the YMCA.

Ron was a very positive man and always had a smile for everyone.  He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed fantasy football and loved to discuss politics.  Music was a passion of Ron's, and he always said, "Music was his medicine".  Ron was a true warrior in mind, body, and spirit.  He was an amazing father and grandfather and loved them all dearly.

Ron is survived by his wife Mary; children, Chris (Elisabeth) Cooper, Alyssa Galloway, Josh Cooper, Kirsten Baker; 8 grandchildren; sister Melissa Baker; and brother Michael (Julie) Baker.

He was preceded in death by his loving Nan-Naw.
