URBANA:  Sandra Kay Wendel, age 79, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, January 31, 2022 at St. John Lutheran Church in Center Point with Rev. Thomas C. VanHemert officiating.  Interment will be held at Urbana Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 PM, Sunday at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6 ^th Street) in Vinton

Sandra was born on April 22, 1942 in rural Powesheik County, near Victor, the daughter of Robert and Mildred (Meyer) Allee.  She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1960.  On May 22, 1965, she was united in marriage to Richard Wendel at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids.

Sandra was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Center Point, where she enjoyed membership in the Ruth Circle.  Sandra and Richard loved to take car trips around Iowa and enjoyed traveling and taking guided tours.  In her leisure, she enjoyed playing cards and dominoes.

She is survived by her husband Richard; 2 sons, Adam (Frances) Wendel of Lakewood, WA, Joseph (Jennifer) Wendel of Center Point; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; sister Carol (William) Calloway of Cedar Rapids; and her aunt Beverly Allee of Belle Plaine.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son Matthew Wendel; and brother Gary Allee.
