Shirley Mae (Gluesing) Meyer (91) entered her heavenly home peacefully the morning of September 25, 2026. She was born to Gilbert and Madeline Gluesing from Newhall. She graduated from Newhall High School in 1952 and was married to the love of her life Eldo Meyer from Garrison on August 7, 1955. They enjoyed 69 years of marriage and had two children: Steve (Teresa) Meyer from Garrison and Connie (Randy) Mortvedt from Ames.

Shirley and Eldo farmed or were involved in agriculture their whole lives in Garrison and for a few years in Newhall. Shirley worked for a number of years at the State Bank Vinton and as librarian for the Garrison Public Library. She also served on the Garrison Public Library board of directors. She was a committed Christian who served in a number of capacities with St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Garrison including the Alter Guild, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML), Tabitha Society and as a Sunday School Teacher.

Shirley and Eldo also enjoyed traveling and many hours of dancing with the Vinton Twirlers Square Dance Club. In their later years one of their primary enjoyments were their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Shirley had many hobbies in her life. Quilting, sewing, scrapbooking, reading, golfing, working with ceramics, gardening and growing flowers were among her passions. Her family, nieces, nephews and neighbors were often treated with her baked goods.

Shirley was proceeded in death by her husband Eldo, her parents Gilbert and Madeline Gluesing and her brother Ronald. She is survived by her sister JoAnne Phelps from Arizona and her two sons, four granddaughters, six great-granddaughters and four great-grandsons.

Shirley spent the last four years of her life at Windsor Manor in Vinton. Her family is very appreciative of the care lavished upon her by staff at the home.

Visitation will be held Wednesday September 30 from 9 AM to 10 AM at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Garrison. The funeral service will follow at the church at 10 AM. Burial will be at the Garrison Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the church following committal at the cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established to benefit St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and the Garrison Public Library
