Obituary

NEWHALL:  Terry Joe Graveman, age 66, died on Friday, December 6, 2024, following a traffic accident north of Newhall.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 21, 2024 at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton, with Melea Davis officiating.  Interment will be held at Raetz Cemetery near Atkins, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Vinton Country Club from 1:00 until 4:00 PM.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Friday, also at the funeral home.

Terry was born on December 24, 1957, the son of Herman Oliver and Vivian (Roster) Graveman.  He graduated from Dysart-Geneseo High School with the class of 1976.  In 1980, Terry married Suzan Bobzien, and the couple later divorced in 1992.  Terry worked as a fork truck operator for National Oats – Treehouse from 1979, until retiring in 2020.

Terry was a devoted family man who showed his love and appreciation for those around him in countless ways. He cherished his beloved dog, Lola, who was his loyal companion until the very end. A die-hard Harley-Davidson enthusiast, Terry could often be found cruising the open road on his bike, a passion that brought him immense joy.  He loved to listen to loud music and work on projects in his garage.

An avid outdoorsman, Terry's love for fishing was unmatched. Whether he was casting lines for catfish and walleye, setting diddy poles on the river, or chasing the elusive 50-pound catfish, the water was his second home. He also had a knack for catching snapping turtles, adding to his many adventures on the river.

Terry's appreciation for nature extended beyond the water—he enjoyed deer hunting, foraging for mushrooms, and simply living life outdoors. His vibrant spirit, love for the great outdoors, and the cherished memories he created with family and friends will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his daughters, Amber (Justin Gagola) Graveman of Cedar Rapids, Andrea (Eric) Petersen of Van Horne; his life partner, Colleen Claypool of Newhall; grandchildren, Olivia (Bailey Eiler) Graveman of Cedar Rapids, Tiffany Petersen of Van Horne, Rachel Petersen of Cedar Rapids, Caleb Gagola of Cedar Rapids; siblings, Cindy (Mark) Hopkins of Brandon, Rocky (Sheila) Graveman of Dysart, Dan Graveman of Waterloo; and Colleen's sister Renita Herman of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Sherry (Graveman) Petersen; brother Steve Graveman; his grandmother, Adabelle Roster; and Colleen's parents, Ronald and Mary Claypool, and her siblings, Judy, and brother Terence.
