CEDAR RAPIDS: Thomas D. Schumacher, 78, died peacefully on June 15, 2022 at Country House Residence after a long illness with Dementia, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's disease.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 20, at 10:30 am at King of Kings Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids with Pastor Rich Balvanz officiating. Interment will be at St. Stephens Lutheran Cemetery near Atkins, IA. Visitation will be held Father's Day Sunday, June 19, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at King of Kings Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Memorials may be directed to King of Kings Lutheran Church.
Tom was born January 17, 1944 in Coon Rapids, Iowa; the son of Walter and Jessie (Smouse) Schumacher. On November 25, 1978, he was united in marriage to JoAnn Schanbacher at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins, IA.
Tom worked at Xerox for 35 years. Before that, he was at Communications Engineering, and also served in the Iowa National Guard. He was an active member at King of Kings Lutheran Church as an elder, usher, greeter and choir member. Tom also served on a committee to install stained glass windows at the C Ave location.
His passion was being with family where he enjoyed time with grandkids. He was an avid boater and fisherman. Tom was known for fixing things, whether it was working on cars or houses. He was most proud of his wife, but his greatest love was for the Lord where he witnessed until the end.
Tom is survived by his wife JoAnn of Cedar Rapids; son Eric (Stephanie) Schumacher of Ankeny, IA, grandchildren Ryan, Lauren, Austin, daughter Amy (Mark) Jungmann of Polk City, IA, grandchildren Estelle, Lucca, and son Tony (Leilanie) Schumacher of Los Angeles, CA, grandchildren Zachary and daughter in law (Kelly) of Los Angeles, CA, grandchildren Joshua, Connor. He is also survived by sister Jan (John) Pearson of Anamosa, IA, sister Marlene (Leroy) Hight of Schleswig, IA, brother-in-law Allan and Bev Yeager, as well as many nieces.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Jessie and sister Charlotte Yeager.
