ATKINS:  Tony R. Smith, age 82, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2022, at his home in Atkins.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 20, 2023, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, with Rev. Douglas Woltemath officiating.  The family will greet friends from 9:30 AM until service time at the church.  Interment with graveside military rites will be held at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Atkins.

Tony was born on October 15, 1940, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, the son of Roy and Kitty (Kelso) Smith Sr.  He graduated from Lawrenceburg High School with the class of 1959.  On November 15, 1964, he was united in marriage to Judy Theis at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins.  Tony served his country in the United States Navy for 23 years, attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer, E-7.  Following his discharge from the Navy, Tony worked at DataComm and Rockwell-Collins in Cedar Rapids for over 20 years.

He was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins, Atkins American Legion Post 217 and served on the Atkins City Council.  Tony enjoyed gardening and working on cars, was passionate about home improvement and loved spending time with his wife, children & grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Judy of Atkins; four sons: Eric (Heidi) Smith of Boise, ID; Alexander (Elena) Smith of Lawrence, KS; Nicholas (Ashley) Smith of Washington, D.C.; Patrick Smith of Atkins; seven grandchildren: Dmitri, Amanda, Maksim, Carissa, Nikolai, Emerson, and Ford Smith; and his sister, Glynda Grinnell of Lawrenceburg, TN, along with several nieces and nephews.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Wiladean Burks, Onda Bailey and Ann Kimbrell; and two brothers: Roy Smith Jr. and James Smith.
